  • People between the ages of 12 and 17 are more likely to be the victim of violent crime than are persons past their mid-20's.
  • Approximately three-fourths of children who are abducted by a non-family member are teenage girls.
  • Young people who run away from home are more likely to become victims, especially if they travel more than 10 miles away from home, have no secure place to stay, and have a history of running away.
  • Almost one-third of runaways report that they spent at least part of their time without a secure or familiar place to stay.
