CYBER CRIMES UNIT ARRESTS SEBASTIAN COUNTY MAN

LITTLE ROCK - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today that agents from his office have arrested a Sebastian County man for possession of child pornography.

Agents from McDaniel's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Joshua David Peters, 29, of Lavaca, this morning on four counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, a Class C felony.

Peters was arrested at his residence, 804 Tiffany Drive, in Lavaca. He is being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

"Our Cyber Crimes Unit is committed to investigating and arresting those in our state that are suspected of using the Internet to prey upon our children," McDaniel said. "I appreciate the work of the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office and the Lavaca Police Department, which assisted in this investigation."

Agents with the Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Peters' residence this morning, confiscating four laptop computers, a phone and other electronic evidence. During the execution of the search warrant, Peters acknowledged to investigators that he was in possession of child pornography. He was arrested at that time.

The Attorney General's Office will turn over its completed case file to Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue.

Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
