CYBER CRIMES UNIT ARRESTS GREENE COUNTY MAN
LITTLE ROCK - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today that a Greene County man has been arrested for possession of child pornography.
Jeffery W. Webb, 37, of Paragould, was arrested by agents from the Attorney General's Office at his residence Wednesday. Greene County District Court Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause to charge Webb with 20 counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, a Class C felony.
Webb was being held in the Greene County Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bond.
"Each time an Internet predator views an image of a child being sexually abused, he victimizes that child all over again," McDaniel said. "These crimes are deplorable, and agents from our Cyber Crimes Unit will continue to investigate and arrest those who prey upon our children."
Agents with the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Webb after executing a search warrant at his residence, 1101 Royal Street, in Paragould. At that time, Webb admitted to investigators that he was in possession of multiple images of child pornography on a laptop computer.
The computer was seized and will be analyzed at the Cyber Crimes Unit's Forensic Lab in Little Rock.
Special Agent Chad Meli of the Attorney General's Office began investigating Webb earlier this month after suspecting that child pornography was being possessed at Webb's residence.
The Paragould Police Department assisted in the investigation and arrest. The Attorney General's Office will turn its completed case file over to Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington.
Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit investigates Internet crimes against children statewide, supplementing efforts already underway to combat child pornography.
