FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN FACES ADDITIONAL CHARGES

LITTLE ROCK - A Franklin County man arrested last week by agents from the Attorney General's Office now faces charges of rape and sexual assault in Crawford County, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today.

Kenneth Gene Mendenhall, 38, of Altus, was charged with one count of rape and one count of second-degree sexual assault. Crawford County Circuit Judge Mike Medlock set Mendenhall's bond at $500,000.

Agents from the Attorney General's Office began the investigation that resulted in the new charges after arresting Mendenhall on June 21 for possession of child pornography. Mendenhall was charged in Franklin County with six counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

Mendenhall is currently in the Franklin County Detention Center in lieu of $30,000 bond on the child pornography charges.

Rape is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison. Second-degree sexual assault is a Class B felony punishable by five to 20 years in prison. The child pornography counts are all Class C felonies punishable by three to 10 years in prison.

Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
