LITTLE ROCK – A Washington County man arrested last month by agents with the Attorney General’s Office was arrested again Tuesday on additional charges, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced.

Johnny D. Carte, 61, of Evansville was arrested on two counts of sexual indecency with a child, a Class D felony, following an investigation by the Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit.

The investigation that led to the second arrest followed Carte’s arrest in June on 30 counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

Carte is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center.

“Sadly, and all too often, individuals who engage in the exploitation of children on the Internet also commit other crimes against our most vulnerable citizens,” McDaniel said. “Our investigation in this matter is ongoing, and we look forward to presenting our case in court.”

Carte was initially arrested by the Cyber Crimes Unit on June 27 after agents executed a search warrant at his home on Hale Mountain Road in Evansville. Electronic evidence seized from the residence will be analyzed by the Cyber Crimes Unit Forensic Lab in Little Rock.

The Attorney General’s Office will turn its complete investigative file over to Fourth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney John Threet.

Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
