The United States Postal Service has been at the forefront
of the Federal Government’s efforts to curb the distribution
by mail of unlawful adult and child pornography. There are
two federal laws which can protect you and your family from
receiving unsolicited sexually oriented advertisements.
The Postal Service may issue a prohibitory order against
any mailer who sends you an advertisement for any matter
which you, in your own judgment, believe to be "erotically
arousing or sexually provocative." For this to be done,
you need to complete Postal Form 2150 at any post office.
Thirty (30) days after the mailer receives the order, he
is prohibited from sending you any further mailings. If this
order is violated, the business is subject to federal criminal
prosecution. Your minor children under nineteen years old
that reside with you are also protected by the prohibitory
order.
The Postal Service also keeps a list of all consumers who
do not wish to have unsolicited "sexually oriented advertisements" mailed
to them. You can add your name to this list by completing
Postal Service Form 2201 at any post office. Thirty (30)
days after your name has been added to the list, no one should
mail you a "sexually oriented advertisement." Again,
violators are subject to federal prosecution. As with Form
2150, when you fill out Form 2201, you should include your
children under 19 years old who live with you or are under
your care, custody, or supervision. Contact Us
